On Sunday, the Baltimore Ravens will play host to the Denver Broncos in a heated NFL betting affair.

Can the Broncos really be stopped right now? Maybe the bye week will slow them down. They’ve opened up the year at 6-0 both SU and ATS, and it’s not like they’ve run up against a bunch of slackers either. That opening weekend win in Cincinnati is looking better and better as the season goes by, and their L/3 wins against Dallas, New England, and San Diego also look fantastic. However, with the whole world gunning for the only undefeated team in the conference, this game in Baltimore will probably be the toughest test in HC Josh McDaniels’ young coaching career. His defense has been the key to the season, as the unit ranks second in the league in total defense (262.5 yards per game) and first in points against (11.0). QB Kyle Orton has been incredibly efficient this year, as he has thrown nine touchdown passes against just one interception in his first six games as a Bronco.

Will the real Baltimore Ravens please stand up? Are the Ravens as good as they were in the first three weeks of the season when they put up a total of 103 points in three victories against the Chiefs, Chargers, and Browns, or as bad as the team that has allowed 77 points in three losses against the Patriots, Bengals, and Vikings? Regardless of whom the opposition is, QB Joe Flacco continues to play the role of Joe Cool. Even though he is on a pace to throw for over a dozen interceptions this year, the Delaware product is having a great sophomore season in the NFL, as he has thrown for 1,674 yards and 11 scores in six games. He already has three 300+ yard passing games this season. The defense has been the biggest question mark in Baltimore though, as the unit characteristically ranks 19th in the league, allowing an average of 332.7 yards per game.

These two teams haven’t met since the 2006 season, but the L/3 meetings have all been slugfests. Denver won 13-3 in ’06 and 12-10 in ’05, but both of those games were at Mile High Stadium. The last time these teams met in Baltimore was in 2003, and the Ravens won that contest 26-6.

As a part of your NCAA Football gambling weekend, the Tennessee Volunteers will play host to the South Carolina Gamecocks in a heated college football betting affair.

An effort like they exhibited last week will most definitely find the Gamecocks on the short end of the scoreboard against any other SEC team with a pulse. SC had no problem moving the ball as they outgained Vandy by better than 3:1, but they couldn’t convert the yardage into points. Still, QB Stephen Garcia had another solid outing completing 22 of 33 passes for 312 yards with a pair of TD passes. He is the face of SC football now, and finally, there isn’t a QB controversy in Columbia. Garcia’s already thrown for 1794 yards to go along with a solid TD/INT ratio of 11:4; he’s also rushed for three scores. There’s still work to be done however as the Cocks rank just 68th overall in total yardage 366.4 YPG), and a woeful 93rd overall in points scored (23 PPG). Defensively, SC boasts a stout unit currently ranked 21st overall in points allowed (17.5 PPG), 14th in total yards (288.9 YPG), and 3rd against the pass (141.2 YPG). They’ve had trouble defending the run however (147.6 YPG), and that could play a role against the Vols 33rd ranked rushing attack.

You really have to hand it to the Kiffin’s for devising beautiful game plans for both Florida and Alabama. If holding the potent Gators to just 23 points wasn’t enough to make you believe the Vols are on the right track towards getting back to national prominence, you had to finally accept it last week when they held the Crimson Tide to just 12 points. They kept them out of the end zone and forced Bama, which came into the game ranked 26th overall in scoring offense (31.8 PPG), to kick four FGs. If only they had an offense that could make the defense’s hard work pay off. That said; the offense has been at its best at home this season where it’s averaged 35.8 PPG and 429.2 total YPG in five games. As long as QB Jonathan Crompton limits his mistakes and plays more like he did against Georgia than UCLA, the Vols will have a chance to win what looks to be a good old fashioned defensive slugfest.

The Gamecocks laid the smack down against Tennessee last season smashing the Vols 27-6 as 6-point Columbia favorites. The road team is 9-2-1 ATS the L/12 overall meetings, and these clubs have played to the under in 6 of their L/8 battles.

On Sunday night, the Washington Redskins will play host to the Philadelphia Eagles in a heated NFL betting affair.

The bye week certainly didn’t do a body good for Philly as it got embarrassed by the biggest laughing stock in the league last week; otherwise known as the Oakland Raiders. You had to question OC Marty Mornhinweg’s plan of attack when he decided to call just 14 running plays against the league’s 30th ranked rushing “D” and throw the ball an unheard of 46 times. Even more puzzling is the fact that the Eagles ripped off 4.8 YPC yet still called passing plays 77% of the time. QB Donovan McNabb was sacked a whopping six times and only completed 48% of his passes. In all, the offense was held to less than 300 yards and without a TD for the first time this season. While it ranks 6th overall in points scored (27.2) and 12th in passing yards (250.4), the offense has really struggled to run the ball in ’09 averaging just 101.2 YPG (#20). Defensively, the Eagles rank 4th in total defense (282.8 YPG) and 5th vs. the pass (179 YPG), but ranks 15th against the run (103.8 YPG) and 16th in scoring defense (19.8 PPG). If the Eagles continue to abandon the run in this spot, they’ll be hard pressed to win let alone cover this game.

If there is one team in this league that had been handed the schedule of all schedule’s to start the year, it’s the Washington Redskins. Besides opening with the NY Giants, the Skins have played a losing team in each of their L/5 games and only have a 2-3 record to show for it. Last week’s pathetic effort vs. KC was the final straw for HC Jim Zorn who was stripped off his offensive play-calling duties in favor of former NFL OC Sherm Lewis who had been calling out bingo numbers in a retirement facility the last couple seasons. Lewis will be looking to revitalize an offense that ranks in the lower third of the league in all important offensive categories. Defensively, Washington has held its own against subpar competition and currently ranks 5th in total defense (286.5 YPG), 3rd against the pass (169 YPG), and 5th in scoring defense (16 PPG). The only place they’ve lacked is against the run where they’ve allowed 117.5 YPG (#22). If the secondary can clamp down on the Eagles WR’s and force Philly to move the chains on the ground, they could hang in this one all the way through and have a chance at the outright win.

Washington swept its season series with the Eagles last season winning 23-17 as 6.5-point road underdogs and 10-3 as 4.5 point home pups. They’re 6-2-1 ATS the L/9 overall meetings, and the under has cashed in 8 of the L/11 overall meetings (8-2-1).

On Sunday night, the New York Giants will play host to the Arizona Cardinals in a heated NFL betting affair.

Arizona put forth one of the most impressive Week 6 efforts in the league last week at Qwest Field where it toyed with its division rival from the opening kick. They stormed out to a 14-0 lead before the Seahawks offense even got the ball, and cruised the rest of the way giving their NFL betting backers one of the easiest covers of the week. QB Kurt Warner had another solid outing completing 32 of 41 passes for 276 yards with a TD:INT ratio of 2:1. WR Larry Fitzgerald was his favorite target on the day hauling in 10 receptions for 100 yards and a score. The ground game was stymied once again, and that’s been a problem for HC Ken Whisenhunt’s offense all season long. It ranks second to last (#31) in rushing yards per game averaging a mere 57.6 YPG overall. Their passing attack has made up for their problems in that area currently ranking 6th overall at 280.2 YPG. The defense dominated last week limiting the Seahawks to just 128 total yards, while not allowing a single 3rd down conversion in 11 tries, while sacking Matt Hasselbeck five times. It boasts the #1 ranked run “D” in the NFL allowing just 59.6 YPG, but has been torched through the air to the tune of 265.2 YPG (#31). If it finds a way to limit NY’s passing attack, Arizona will have an excellent shot of winning this game both SU & ATS.

The Giants got their clocks cleaned in a big way last week! They had no answer for the Saints offense, and couldn’t keep them off the scoreboard after Eli and company managed to put points on the board. When the dust cleared, NY was outgained 493-325, lost the time of possession battle by nearly 13 minutes, had nine penalties, and lost the TO battle 2:0. Not a championship caliber effort from HC Tom Coughlin’s men to say the least. Still, they enter today’s contest 2-0 SU at home and have won 10 of their L/14 meetings with the Cardinals. Offensively, the Giants are in good shape as it ranks 3rd in points scored (29.7), 5th in rushing yards (147.7), and 6th in total yards (402). If Manning is given ample time, he should be able to pick apart the Cardinals woeful secondary. Defensively, the Giants match-up well with the Cardinals potent passing attack coming in ranked 1st in the league allowing just 147.3 YPG.

NY beat the Cardinals in Arizona by a 37-29 final count as 3-point road favorites last season. AZ’s covered each of its L/5 games as an underdog, but NY’s 6-2-1 ATS its L/9 home games.

On Sunday, the Miami Dolphins will play host to the New Orleans Saints in a heated NFL betting affair.

If you were still apprehensive about buying into the Saints early season success going into last week’s game with New York, you had to of come out impressed with their overall body of work. HC Sean Payton’s club took it to the Giants from the opening kick, and never looked back. The closest the Giants ever came to them was 10-points. No matter how many times NY cut into the deficit, NO added on to the lead and put the game away right before the break when it went up 34-17. QB Drew Brees is the ringleader of the #1 ranked overall (430 YPG) and scoring offense (38.4 PPG). He’s well on his way towards MVP honors already throwing for 1400 yards and 13 TDs while only throwing a pair of picks. Prior versions of Payton’s team had the great offense, but the defense was the Achilles heel. That’s by no means the case in ’09 as the Saints rank 9th in total defense (301.2 YPG), 5th against the run (84.6 YPG), 13th against the pass (216.6 YPG), and 10th in scoring “D” (18.6 PPG). The level of play on both sides of the ball has seen the Saints outscore their opposition by a combined 192-93; domination at its finest!

Miami has now rattled off a pair of wins and covers after dropping each of its first three games of the season. They entered their bye week off an exhilarating outright win against the Jets as 3-point home underdogs. The Fins ground attack was able to churn out 151 yards on the night, but it was the play of QB Chad Henne that outshone everyone else as he had his best outing at this level. The youngster completed 20 of 26 passes for 241 yards and tossed TDs of 21 and 53-yards to TE Anthony Fasano and WR Ted Ginn Jr. respectively. If the effort was for real and he can sustain those outings throughout the long haul of the season, the Dolphins will climb up the offensive rankings and become one of the toughest units to counter. Currently, MIA is the best rushing team in the league averaging 177.2 YPG and is 14th in total offense at 346 YPG. Defensively, the Dolphins have been stout against the run, ranked 3rd allowing a paltry 76.4 YPG, but they’ve been picked apart through the air where they’ve given up an average of 231.4 YPG (#19). The green secondary will have its hands full with NO’s potent attack.

The Saints are 6-4 SU & 7-3 ATS their L/10 non-conference games, and 4-1 SU & ATS as a road favorite of 3.5 to 7-points the L/3 seasons. Miami’s 4-1-1 ATS its L/6 following a bye week, but just 2-5 ATS its L/7 as a home pup.

On Sunday, the Pittsburgh Steelers will play host to the Minnesota Vikings in a heated NFL betting affair.

Minnesota dominated the Ravens throughout the first 45 minutes of game action last week and held a commanding 27-10 lead with just over 10 minutes remaining in the 4th quarter; then all hell broke loose. Ravens QB Joe Flacco threw for a pair of TDs and RB Ray Rice rattled off a 33-yard TD scamper to give Baltimore a one-point lead with 3:44 remaining in the game. We all know what happened after that, but doesn’t it seem the Vikings would have lost a couple of those games if not for picking up Favre. The veteran has turned the Vikes offense into one of the most balanced attacks in the league. It currently ranks 13th overall gaining 348.2 YPG, but is the 2nd ranked scoring offense averaging 31.5 PPG. Defensively, the Vikings haven’t been as good as last season. The rush “D” ranks in the top 10 (93.5 YPG), but the pass defense is putrid (#24 at 248.3 YPG) evidenced by allowing Flacco to pick them apart in the 4th quarter. Overall, the “D” is allowing 20.2 PPG (#18). The secondary will once again have trouble defending the Steelers 2nd ranked passing offense if it doesn’t flip the switch and pick up its game.

Another SU win, and another non cover for the defending champs who failed their NFL betting backers for the second game in a row and fifth time this season. Though they dominated the game in almost all respects, four turnovers led to them failing to cover the 14-point closing spread by the slimmest of margins. The near miss was sickening as they outgained the Browns 403-106, held onto the ball for nearly 14 more minutes, and forced four turnovers of their own. Still, what matters most in HC Mike Tomlin’s eyes is a victory, and his club has now rattled off 12 in a row against the division rival Browns. Now he turns his attention to his former club whom he was the DC for before taking the PIT gig. His 3rd ranked overall defense (275.2 YPG) will get a stiff test from the Vikes attack, but if his 2nd ranked rush “D” (74.3 YPG) is able to contain Peterson and Force Favre to beat them, he has to like his chances. #4 is yet to have one of those “Favre-esque” blow-ups, but the blitzing style of the Steelers might just be the missing ingredient to force its debut.

The Vikings have covered the spread in each of their L/4 road games, but they’re just 6-12 SU & 6-10-2 ATS as an underdog the L/3 seasons. The Steelers are 6-2 ATS their L/8 as a home chalk, but just 1-6 ATS their L/7 overall games played.

As a part of your NCAA Football gambling weekend, the BYU Cougars will play host to the TCU Horned Frogs in a heated college football betting affair.

Last week’s home effort couldn’t have come at a better time for the Horned Frogs. The offense flexed its muscles in a big way racking up a total of 499 overall yards, and the 44 points posted was its highest mark against an FBS opponent this season. QB Andy Dalton completed 15 of 23 passes for 211 yards and a pair of TDs from 47 and 39-yards out. A total of 14 Horned Frogs got carries to amass a total of 275 rushing yards and three TDs. CSU had no answer, and TCU made it pay in a big way. Defensively, the Horned Frogs were just as impressive limiting a CSU offense that was averaging close to 350 yards combined to a measly 182 yards with only 70 yards coming on the ground. They allowed only 10 1st downs and limited them to a 2-of-13 effort on 3rd down. TCU currently ranks 4th in the nation allowing a paltry 238 YPG with 81.2 YPG coming on the ground (#8) and 156.8 YPG through the air (#9).

BYU played as good a game as it could offensively by not turning the ball over and winning the time of possession battle by close to 18 minutes, but the defense had problems getting a handle on the SDST Aztecs passing game. That was the sole reason it failed to cover the lofty double-digit spread as the Aztecs connected on TD passes of 7, 36, and 6-yards. Still, BYU outgained the Aztecs 512-342 and QB Max Hall had one of his better games of the season completing 69% of his passes for 346 yards and three TDs without an INT. He was rewarded with MWC Offensive Player of the Week honors for the effort. He now hasn’t thrown a pick in each of his L/2 games, and it’s important for him to come into this game confident against the TCU defense that picked him off twice last season. Hall’s been fantastic of late, but he’ll have to be even better tonight with the winner of this game in line for a BCS Bowl berth.

TCU beat up on BYU last season as two-point home chalks (32-7). The win put an end to the Cougars perfect mark and nixed any BCS dreams the program had. The Horned Frogs are 1-5 ATS their L/6 road games against a +.500 opponent, but a $$$-making 6-1 ATS their L/7 as a favorite in the 0.5 to 3-point range. The over’s cashed in 3 of the L/4 meetings

As a part of your NCAA Football gambling weekend, the Kansas Jayhawks will play host to the Oklahoma Sooners in a heated college football betting affair.

Oklahoma lost QB Sam Bradford for what looks to be the rest of the season in last week’s game against the Longhorns, but most importantly, the program dropped its second straight in the “Red River Rivalry”. OK heads into today’s match-up with the Jayhawks losers in two of their L/3 overall. All three of their losses on the year have come against ranked foes by a combined five-points. “The Stache”, otherwise known as QB Landry Jones, gets the starting nod in this spot after coming into last week’s game on short notice. The freshman QB threw for 250 yards and a score vs. Texas, but tossed a pair of interception’s to increase his season output to five overall. The Sooners ground game was dominated last week by the Longhorns stout “D” (-16 yards), but OU’s rushing attack currently ranks 54th overall at 153.8 YPG. Though it’s much lesser than last year’s version, the OU offense is averaging 31.3 PPG (#32) and 432.7 YPG (#20). The defense is what stirs this team drink in ’09. It played a heck of a game last week making QB Colt McCoy look awful while forcing three turnovers. Overall, the Sooners “D” is ranked 8th overall in total defense allowing 258.2 YPG and 3rd in scoring “D” surrendering just 9.7 PPG.

Colorado pulled a fast one by switching its QB’s for last week’s game, and it caught the Jayhawks off-guard to allow the Buffaloes to storm out to a 24-3 1st half lead. It was all Jayhawks after that however as QB Todd Reesing lit the CU defense up for 401 yards and a pair of TDs to give the Jayhawks a brief three-point lead in the 4th quarter. The defense couldn’t hold it though after CU answered with a 13-yard TD run, but KU still went down swinging. With less than a minute to go, Reesing and company got a shot at the end zone on the game’s final play, but the pass wasn’t hauled in by WR Dezmon Briscoe and KU suffered a terrible defeat. Though Reesing was spectacular, his O-Line was dreadful allowing him to get dropped six-times, and he got no help from the ground game that mustered a total of -8 yards; pathetic! The defense limited Colorado to a total of 322 yards, but it will be severely tested through the air this week against QB Jones whose proven to be an above average passer already throwing for 1111 yards and 11 TDs. KU is stout vs. the run (100.8 YPG) but terrible defending the pass (242.7) and ranks 36th overall in scoring defense allowing 20.7 PPG.

The Sooners have won and covered each of their L/2 trips to Lawrence, and they’ve won each of the L/5 meetings SU going 3-2 ATS.

As a part of your NCAA Football gambling weekend, the Michigan Wolverines will play host to the Penn State Nittany Lions in a heated college football betting affair.

PSU put forth one of its most dominating efforts of the season in last week’s Homecoming game against Big 10 foe Minnesota. They blanked the Golden Gophers 20-0 to just barely cover the 17-point closing spread, but the 20-point win is by no means indicative of how dominant the Nittany Lions actually were. The defense held Minny to a total of just 138 overall yards and allowed them to convert just 3-of-11 3rd down chances. PSU’s stop unit has now held five of its seven opponents to seven points or less. Offensively, QB Daryll Clark and company mustered 464 total yards and held onto the ball for close to 42 minutes. Still, they only scored 20-points even though they dominated and that has to concern the coaching staff heading into this week’s tilt with the Wolverines.

Michigan seemingly had its way last week, but it should have, as Delaware State would never be confused with the likes of this week opponent. The offense churned out a school record 727 yards with 461 of them coming on the ground. QB Tate Forcier saw limited action as he’s still a bit nicked up, but it wasn’t the Wolverines passing attack that stole the show. Instead, it was the ground game that saw RB Vincent Smith lead the way with 166 yards and a score; in all, five different players ran for a TD. Michigan tallied points on seven of its first eight possessions and racked up 442 yards of offense through the first 30 minutes of play. The defense looked great as well, but overall, the Wolverines are allowing 21.9 PPG on 363.3 Total YPG. Good for the country’s 46th and 64th rankings respectively.

PSU shellacked Michigan 46-17 as 24-point home chalks last season to snap their nine-game losing streak in the series. Michigan’s won five straight against PSU in Ann Arbor, and they’ve covered the spread in 7 of these programs L/10 meetings.

As a part of your NCAA Football gambling weekend, the Army Black Knights will play host to the Rutgers Scarlet Knights in a heated college football betting affair.

The Scarlet Knights had their four-game winning streak snapped in Big East play last week against the Panthers. Frosh QB Tom Savage had a solid night completing 23 of 39 passes for 248 yards with a 1:1 TD/INT ratio, but he got no help from his rushing attack that only managed to gain 38 yards on 20 attempts. As a whole, the unit really struggled against Pitt’s swarming “D” gaining a total of just 286 yards. Defensively, they were gouged on the ground to the tune of 220 yards letting RB Dion Lewis chew up close to 200 yards himself. The unit might once again be tested against Army whose staple offensively is the option attack. Forcing turnovers will be crucial in their ability to get ahead of tonight’s lofty spread, so the fact that Rutgers comes into tonight’s game with a +12 mark has to have their backers confident.

Last week’s road effort at Temple can best be described as disappointing for Army. The ground game was extremely lacking (48 carries for 181 yards), which ultimately killed the offensive attack that’s managed to throw for a pedestrian average of 66.1 YPG. Throw in an absurd 14 penalties, and a horrific 3rd down effort (1-of11) and you got the recipe for the non-cover the Black Knights granted their backers with. Their defense held their own holding Temple to less than 200 total yards of offense, and it enters tonight’s battle ranked 17th overall in total defense surrendering 285 YPG. It’s also been fortunate in the turnover department forcing 14 on the year (9 INT, 5 FUM) and is +4 on the season. It would be quite a feat to build upon that mark with Rutgers turning it over just six times this season.

Rutgers has won five straight against Army by an average of 27 PPG, and won last year’s meeting by a 30-3 final count as 18-point home favorites. It’s 7-1 SU & 6-2 ATS vs. sub .500 opponents the L/3 seasons, and 5-5 SU & 7-3 ATS its L/10 road games. Army’s 2-5 ATS their L/7 as an underdog.
