Jr. QB Ryan Colburn had a monster game in Madison throwing for 289 yards and four TDs, but he also threw three INTs; a stat line like that will almost certainly see Fresno fall to Boise for the fourth year in a row with the Broncos usually making teams pay for their mistakes. RB Ryan Matthews has posted back-to-back 100 yard games to start the year, and will need to have another big game for the Bulldogs to pull off the upset.

It’s been tough being a fan of the Bulldogs in their series with Boise State as the Broncos have dominated. Last year’s 61-10 dismantling of the Bulldogs couldn’t have sat well with HC Hill throughout the off-season. His kids put one heck of an effort together in a tough venue last week, and should build off it in this spot. Boise doesn’t look like the finely tuned machine CFB bettors have gotten so used to winning with over the last couple years; they have some flaws. Look for Fresno State to take advantage of those imperfections and finally have a chance to compete in this rivalry. There once was a day opponents hated traveling to Bulldog Stadium; I think those days might be making a comeback!

Ann Arbor will be the place to be this Saturday afternoon when Notre Dame and Michigan pick their annual CFB betting rivalry back up. The visiting Fighting Irish currently sit as 3-point road favorites with a game ‘total’ of 48 at JustBet Sportsbook

South Bend has been an unpleasant place for fans of the Irish for the better part of the last two seasons. It forced three turnovers, and only allowed Nevada to convert 2 of its 11 third down opportunities.

Ann Arbor got a glimpse of what’s to come Saturday afternoon as their Wolverines picked up their first scalp of the season. Frosh QB’s Tate Forcier and Denard Robinson bedazzled the crowd with their arms and legs. Forcier stole the show though as he completed 13 of 20 passes for 179 yards and 3 TDs, and rushed the pigskin 11 times for another 37 yards. WR Junior Hemingway had a huge game hauling in five passes for 103 yards and 2 TDs. The Wolverines run defense was awfully impressive allowing just 38 yards overall (1.6 YPC), and as a whole, the unit allowed the lone TD and 301 overall yards. The pass defense did get torched a bit (263 yards), but the unit forced three turnovers, had six tackles for loss, and picked up a pair of QB sacks.

Yes, the underdog is 8-2 ATS the L/10 in this series, but are we to immediately jump on Michigan’s back after just one game? I think not. Michigan will probably finish in the upper tier of the Big 10 standings this season, but the Irish will be going to a BCS Bowl; maybe the biggest of them all if they play their cards right. Michigan was impressive last week, but Notre Dame was better. They completely shut out a Nevada offense that was one of the best in the country a year ago. Irish DC Jon Tenuta is one of the brightest defensive minds in the college ranks, and will have cooked something up to slow down the overconfident Wolverines QB’s. Look for the Irish to go into the “Big House” and make amends for the 38-0 shellacking they absorbed back in ’07.

As for GTECH, it got off to a fabulous start to its 2009-10 NCAAF betting campaign. It took a total of 17 seconds for the Yellow Jackets to put their first ’09 tally on the scoreboard when RB Jonathan Dwyer scampered 74-yards to pay dirt. He finished the night scoring a pair of TDs while running for 95 yards on seven carries. QB Josh Nesbitt also had a solid outing completing 6 of 11 passes for 141 yards with a TD pass and added another 93 yards on the ground with another score. All in all, the duo accounted for 329 of the 497 yards Georgia Tech gained on the night. Defensively, the Yellow Jackets surrendered just 3.0 YPR and 5.1 YPP; not too shabby!

Many are of the belief Clemson will have a much better season in ’09 with the spotlight turned off the program. They failed to live up to the hype a year ago, and I seriously don’t see them all of a sudden turning up the intensity now that they’re forgotten. Do teams really have to feel slighted to always play their best? In CU’s case, I guess so. HC Paul Johnson is a winner, bottom line! He completely changed the landscape of GTECH football last season to allow the program to have its eye on the bigger prize in ’09. While Clemson boasts a ton of talent up and down its roster, the chemistry just isn’t there right now; at least offensively. The Yellow Jackets attack is purring like a finely tuned Mustang, so don’t let the series trends of the underdog and road team domination scare you away; GTECH will knock the Tigers off both SU & ATS for the third year in a row.

HC Nick Saban’s Crimson Tide came out of nowhere a year ago to win the SEC West. After winning a combined 13 games the previous two years, Alabama churned out an impressive 12-win ’08 campaign that saw it go the SEC Championship Game and Sugar Bowl. Though their only two losses came in their final games played, 2008 is still considered a success for the program and their CFB betting backers that went 9-5 ATS overall. This club has some nice pieces on offense, but the defense will be what gets the job done for BAMA in ’09. Nine starters return from a unit that surrendered just 14.3 PPG and just 264 total YPG.

As attractive the Hokies look getting nearly a TD, we’ll be riding Bama in this spot. And no, it’s not because they came to this exact venue a year ago and spanked another ACC team (Clemson). It has more to do with the SEC’s better overall speed and talent as witnessed in Thursday night’s SC/NCST game. This game will undoubtedly be dominated by both clubs defenses. That said; I truly think Alabama has the better pieces on offense to wear the Hokies defense down enough to scratch out a double-digit victory. In watching VTECH’s offense a year ago, it only really got going once RB Evans found his groove. It’s going to get real ugly watching QB Taylor trying to pass against this defense on 3rd and long all night. Trust me, you’re gonna want to be on Bama in this battle of conference heavyweights!

However, his biggest contribution came as a decoy for G Derek Fisher to hit the game-tying three that sent the contest into OT. While the Lakers hold a commanding lead in the series they are also 3-1 ATS in these Finals.

The Magic have shown in Games 2, 3, and 5 of this series that they are the better team, but blown leads in each of these games while pulling out a victory in just one of these contests hurt them. Orlando held a three-point lead late in Game 4 but blew it with two chances when G Jameer Nelson passed up a wide-open layup, then C Dwight Howard missed two foul shots to set up Fisher’s shot. Magic F Hedo Turkoglu turned in another solid performance scoring 25 points while grabbing five rebounds and dishing out seven assists. Unfortunately for “Turk” he shot just 8-of-13 at the foul-line including just 1-of-4 in the fourth quarter.

This pick may go against all common logic by saying the Magic will cover the ‘spread’ in this contest, but that’s exactly what I see happening in Game 5. Here’s why, the Magic have responded every time they could have just rolled over and died in the 2009 NBA Playoffs. Winning on the road in Game 6 to close out the Philadelphia 76ers without Howard, winning at home in Game 6 over the Boston Celtics then blowing them out in Game 7 at the Garden. Look for the Magic to respond tonight and don’t be surprised if there is another Game 7 in their future.

Kobe didn’t take a shot until 5:17 remained in the first quarter and finished that stanza with 17 points, including a four-point play. Bryant seemed gassed and Lakers Head Coach Phil Jackson kept him on the bench for half of the fourth quarter while the Magic took a nine-point lead they would never relinquish. The Lakers are a respectable 4-4 ATS on the road in the postseason after covering a 4.5-point spread for Game 3.

The Magic managed to win by shooting the lights out on Tuesday night as they shot an NBA Finals record 62.5 % from the floor. Orlando shot 75% in the first half (NBA Finals record), but led by just five-points at halftime. Magic F Hedo Turkoglu was a big part of their success scoring 18 points, dishing out seven assists, while grabbing six rebounds. Turk will need to be a huge factor for Orlando tonight if they want to even this series with the Lakers. Another key for the Magic is the outstanding play of reserve G Mickael Pietrus who scored 18 points and got the steal from Bryant that propelled his team to victory. Orlando is 8-3 ATS in its L/11 contests with a 4-1 ATS mark at home in that stretch.

The Lakers will no doubt have their hands full with the Magic tonight, but that 62.5% shooting for Orlando and just a four-point win doesn’t bode well for the home team. NBA bettors can expect to see the Lakers cover this ‘spread’ tonight and take a commanding 3-1 series lead.

The Lakers were not able to cover the ‘spread’ in Game 2 and nearly lost SU, but Orlando G Courtney Lee missed a layup at the end of regulation.

The Magic have to be disappointed after coming so close to tying this series, but the good news for them is coming back home where they have covered their L/4 contests. Orlando lives by the three-point shot, but it is shooting just 18-of-53 (34%) from behind the arc in this series. Magic F Rashard Lewis had a great outing in Game 2 going for 34 points connecting on six-of-12 from three. Lewis has been Orlando’s best shooting threat so far and will need to continue his solid play for the Magic to get back in this series. Orlando is 6-3 ATS on its home floor in the 2009 NBA Playoffs including a 3-0 ATS mark against the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference Finals.

The real Magic team showed up in Game 2 and finally started to look like the team that dominated the Cavs to become the champs of the east. Tonight the Magic will look to build on a 5-6 ATS mark on the road in the postseason.

The Lakers sent a bold statement to the Magic and all the critics that have them as heavy ‘favorites’ in this series scoring over 100-points for a seventh straight game. LA has been up and down the entire playoffs, but seems to have finally found its grove at the right time. Lakers G Kobe Bryant put up 40 points for the third time in his L/7 contests in Game 1 schooling the young Magic with his sweet jump-shot. Kobe had a near triple-double on Thursday adding eight rebounds and eight assists while blocking two shots defensively. The Lakers are 5-5 ATS on their home floor in the 2009 NBA playoffs and they hope to build on that to take a 2-0 series lead tonight.

Just when folks begin to doubt the Magic they seem to respond with a loud vengeance and have lost consecutive contests just once in these playoffs against the Boston Celtics. The Magic are 6-1 SU after a loss this postseason which is a stat that leads me to believe they will have a great bounce-back performance in Game 2. Look for the Magic to find new ways to defend Bryant while Howard has another 20/20 performance to tie the series heading to Orlando.

The Magic are a stunning 7-3 ATS in their L/10 contests overall and a respectable 5-5 ATS on the road in the 2009 NBA Playoffs.

The Lakers have been up and down the entire postseason, but managed to dispose of the red-hot Denver Nuggets in six games to enter the Finals for a second consecutive season. LA dominated offensively in the Western Conference Finals averaging 105.6 PPG including a 119-point performance in a Game 6 blowout victory. Lakers G Kobe Bryant played his heart out in the Denver series averaging 34 PPG and scored a series-high 41 points in a Game 2 win. In his last game the “Black Mamba” put up a double-double with 35 points and 10 assists to close out the Nuggets. The Lakers are 5-5 ATS in their L/10 games and 4-5 ATS at home in the postseason.

The Lakers have an extreme advantage in this series having been to the Finals just last season and the Magic have only two players that have participated in a Finals series on their roster. The edge has to go to LA in Game 1 with the young Magic just not used to playing with such high-stakes. The Lakers didn’t cover a single spread in the 2008 NBA Finals against the Boston Celtics going 0-6 ATS; that streak ends tonight.

The Magic have the Cavs right where I predicted it before this series began and sure took some heat for being a “homer”. This game is a must-win for Orlando to reach the NBA Finals or they will be in deep trouble if there is a Game 7 in Cleveland. Magic F Rashard Lewis powered his team to a victory at home in Game 4 and turned in another solid performance on Thursday putting up 15 points with eight rebounds. Lewis has made every crucial shot of this series for Orlando and will be a big key to its success tonight in closing out Cleveland. The Magic have covered the L/5 spreads at home against the Cavs and are 4-1 ATS overall in this series.

My pick before the series was the Orlando Magic in six games and that hasn’t changed a bit as Cleveland winning games two and five on their home floor was part of the plan. Orlando has found a way to defeat Cleveland on its home floor for the last two seasons and I don’t expect tonight to be any different. Look for the Magic to take control of this contest early and answer any charge the Cavaliers might mount late in the game.
