The second day of the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA tournament will get underway on Friday. Three of the four games will feature teams with double-digit seeds. In one of those games, featuring the VCU Rams and the Florida State Seminoles, both teams have double-digit seeds next to their names.

The Seminoles are a 3.5-point, -175 moneyline favorite in NCAA Tournament Odds at JustBet.

The NCAA selection committee took a lot of heat for including VCU (26-11, 12-6 CAA) into the field of 68. Critics pointed to their underwhelming record and the fact that they couldn’t win their conference tournament. The Rams have proven every one wrong with three straight convincing wins in the NCAA tournament, starting with a 59-46 win over USC in the first round to get into the field of 64.

The Rams followed their win over USC with victories over Georgetown and Purdue. The margin of victory in both those games was 18, and they slit up the scoreboard for 94 points against Purdue on Sunday. They shot 56.9 percent from the field and had six players score in double figures.

Florida State (23-10, 11-5 ACC) certainly wasn’t a slam-dunk pick to make it to the Sweet Sixteen either. The Seminoles finished with the third best regular season record in the ACC but lost in the quarterfinals of the conference tournament to Virginia Tech.

The Seminoles are in the regional semifinals after beating seventh-seeded Texas A&M in the round of 64 and by upsetting second-seeded Notre Dame 71-57 in the round of 32. The Seminoles held both opponents to under 32 percent shooting from the field.

VCU and Florida State have never met in the NCAA tournament and have not played against each other in the last 15 years. The winner of Friday’s game will go on to play in the regional finals against the winner out of Kansas and Richmond.

The BYU Cougars and the Florida Gators meet in the Sweet Sixteen Thursday in a rematch of last season’s first round classic. The game will be played in New Orleans.

Florida is a 3-point, -155 moneyline favorite and the over/under total is 149 in NCAAB Odds at JustBet.

In the first round of the 2010 NCAA tournament, Jimmer Fredette scored 37 points to lead BYU (32-4, 14-2 MWC) to a 99-92 double overtime win over Florida. It was the Cougars’ first win in the tournament in 17 years.

The Gators won’t be surprised by anything Fredette does against them this year. The senior guard is a national player of the year candidate who has captivated fans across the country with his ability to score in bunches. He is the nation’s leading scorer at 28.8 points per game and is averaging 33 points through the first two games of the tournament.

After making the tournament as a 10-seed last year, Florida (28-7, 13-3 SEC) is the No. 2 seed in the Southeast regional. The Gators don’t have a prolific scorer like Fredette, but they are led by a balanced lineup that includes four players who average at least 11.3 points per game. Guards Kenny Boyton and Erving Walker lead the team in scoring at 14.7 and 14.0 points per game, respectively, and SEC Player of the Year Chandler Parsons averages 11.4 points and 7.7 rebounds per game.

Parsons flirted with a triple double in Florida’s 79-51 win over UC Santa Barbara in the first round, finishing with 10 points, seven rebounds and a career-high 10 assists. Walker had 21 points on 5 for 8 shooting in his team’s 73-65 win over UCLA.

Both the TX-San Antonio Roadrunners and the Alabama State Hornets will look to keep their dream seasons alive when they meet in the first round of the NCAA tournament in Dayton, Ohio. The winner of the game will have a chance to play against top-seeded Ohio State once the field of 68 narrows down to the field of 64.

College Basketball Betting at JustBet have the Roadrunners as a 4-point favorite and the over/under total at 130.

Alabama State (17-17, 11-7 SWAC) opened up the season by losing eight of its first nine games, and at one point in the season, the Hornets were 6-16 overall and 3-6 in conference play. They have been one of the hottest teams in college basketball since then, however, and won 10 of their final 11 games. They entered the SWAC tournament as a four seed and won all three games.

The Hornets made their run despite not having anyone on their team average over 13 points per game. Tramayne Moorer (12.5 ppg) and Tramaine Butler (10.9 ppg) are the only to Hornets to average double figures, but they get by on their depth. Thirteen Hornets average at least 12 minutes per game.

TX-San Antonio (19-13, 9-7 Southland) also had a slow start to the season and is a surprise team to make the tournament. The Roadrunners started out with a 6-7 record and entered the Southland conference tournament as the seven-seed. They went on to knock off the conference’s top three seeds in the conference tournament to advance to the field of 68.

Senior Devin Gibson leads the Roadrunners in scoring at 17.0 points per game. Gibson was named the conference tournament most valuable player, but it was forward Jeromie Hill that was the key figure in their 75-72 win over McNeese State in the tournament championship game. The freshman scored 25 points on 10-14 shooting.
