U.S. Open Championship opens at Pebble Beach
By Chico Rodriguez • Jun 17th, 2010 • Category: GOLFThe 110th U.S. Open opens today and there are a lot of intriguing questions as the world’s best golfers hit Pebble Beach.
Of course, one of the biggest concerns still-World No. 1 Tiger Woods, who will be seeking his 15th major championship and first title in 2010. But more importantly, he’ll will be wanting to show the world that he’s still deserving of the No. 1 ranking.
And many will be watching World No. 2 Phil Mickelson, who will be aiming for his fifth major and second straight after winning the Masters in April. Another question is whether Ernie Els, who is ranked seventh in the world, can become one of just a handful of golfers to win the U.S. Open three times.
Or will Lucas Glover repeat after winning the U.S. Open last year at Bethpage Black, and become the first back-to-back winner of the championship since Curtis Strange, who accomplished the feat in 1988-89.
U.S. Open Odds will be available for golf betting fans at JustBet throughout the four-day tournament.
The 2009 U.S. Open was plagued by rain, and ended up being stretched out over five days.
Glover had never even made the cut for a U.S. Open before last year. He jumped in front with his only birdie of the final round, ended with a three-over 73 on the last day, and edged out Mickelson, David Duval and Ricky Barnes by two shots at four-under 276.
Woods had one of his greatest performances the last time the U.S. Open was held at Pebble Beach in 2000. He was better than the rest of the field by 15 shots, and equaled the lowest score ever.
The tournament is being broadcast on ESPN Thursday and Friday and switches to NBC for the final two rounds.
