Mets, Braves open three-game series
By Chico Rodriguez • Aug 30th, 2010 • Category: MLBNational League East division rivals New York Mets and Atlanta Braves open a three-game set Monday at Turner Field (4:10 pm ET, ESPN).
MLB Odds at JustBet have the Braves as -200 moneyline favorites and the over/under total at 8.
It’s too bad this series means nearly nothing in the NL East pennant race, as the Mets appear to have given up with five weeks left in the MLB season. New York is in fourth place, 10 games back of the first-place Braves, and has, at best, an outside shot at the NL East Wild Card Spot, sitting eight games back of the leading Philadelphia Phillies.
Atlanta is 7-2 SU in the past nine meetings at home, and the total has gone under in 12 of the past 13 meetings.
The Mets will start lefty Patrick Misch, who is 0-3 this season with a 3.50 ERA. The Braves will counter with righthander Jair Jurrjens, who is 5-4 with a 4.36 ERA.
New York is coming off a 5-1 win over the Houston Astros, as a -165 favorite on Sunday. The score slipped under the over/under total of 7.
Josh Thole was 2-3 with a solo home run and two runs scored for the Mets, while R.A. Dickey allowed one run on six hits over seven innings.
The Braves defeated another NL East rival, the Florida Marlins, 7-6 as a -105 favorite on Sunday. The 13 runs scored went over the total of 7.5.
Brian McCann hit a walk-off solo home run in the bottom of the ninth inning for Atlanta and Matt Diaz hit a two-run home run in the win.
New York is 65-65 SU this season, and 5-5 SU in its past 10. Atlanta (75-55 SU) has won two straight games.
