MLB: Florida Marlins @ New York Mets

By Hank Harris • Aug 24th, 2010 • Category: MLB

The Florida Marlins and the New York Mets are pretty much out of the pennant race in the NL East division, but that doesn’t mean the rivals have nothing to play for when they open a three-game series Tuesday at Citi Field (7:10 pm ET, FOX).

The Marlins and Mets are 10 and 10.5 games off the pace, respectively, in the NL East, but they both still have at least a shot at the NL Wild Card spot, with Florida 7.5 games back and the Mets 8 behind the leading Philadelphia Phillies.

MLB Odds at JustBet have the Marlins as a -120 moneyline favorite while the over/under total is at 6.5.

Florida will give the ball to ace righthander Josh Johnson, who is 11-5 this season with a 2.27 ERA. New York will counter with righthander R.A. Dickey, who is 8-5 with a 2.41 ERA.

In their last game Sunday, the Marlins lost 2-1 against the Houston Astros, as a -120 favorite. The three runs fell well below the over/under total of 9.

Gaby Sanchez hit a solo home run for Florida and Andrew Miller allowed one run on three hits in five innings.

And the Mets also lost 2-1 in their last game, against the Pittsburgh Pirates  as a +145 underdog on Sunday.

Johan Santana was tagged with the loss for New York after giving up two runs on four hits with nine strikeouts in eight innings.

Florida is 62-61 SU and New York is 62-62 SU.

The Mets are 4-2 SU in the past six meetings, and the total has gone over in four of the past five meetings.
