Hot Mavericks face Hawks, gun for sixth straight

The surging Dallas Mavericks try for their sixth-straight win when they visit the Atlanta Hawks in a nationally televised tilt Friday (7 pm ET, ESPN).

This is the second meeting of the season. Atlanta upset the Mavs 80-75 on Dec. 5, cashing as a 6-point road underdog. The score went under the total of 203.5.

Over the past 10 head-to-head, the Hawks are 4-6 SU and 7-3 ATS.

Dallas is 37-21 SU and 24-34 ATS this season while Atlanta is 36-20 SU and 34-22 ATS.

he teams are neck-and-neck in many statistical categories so far this season, including points scored (Dallas averaging 100.7 PPG; Atlanta 101.4 PPG), points against (Dallas 98.7; Atlanta 96.9) and field-goal percentage (Dallas 45.8; Atlanta 46.5).

The Mavericks picked up their fifth-straight win Wednesday when they beat Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers 101-96. Dallas cashed as a 1.5-point home favorite. The score just barely made it over the total of 196.

And the Hawks won their second in a row on Wednesday, getting past the Minnesota Timberwolves 98-92. Atlanta could not cover as 11.5-point home favorites and the score went under the total of 203.

Before beating the Lakers, Dallas recorded victories against the Indiana Pacers, Miami Heat, Orlando Magic and Phoenix Suns.

And the Mavericks have managed to put together wins while shorthanded, as guard Caron Butler (day-to-day, allergic reaction), center Erick Dampier (out indefinitely, finger injury), and forward Tim Thomas (out indefinitely, personal) are all out.

Atlanta currently has no injuries to report.
