Spartans look to feast on Nittany Lions — again
By Jack Williams • Mar 4th, 2010 • Category: NCAABThe No. 12 Michigan State Spartans have had the Penn State Nittany Lions’ number for quite some time, and it doesn’t appear that will change when the Big Ten conference rivals square off Thursday (7 pm ET, ESPN2).
The Spartans are 8-2 straight up in the past 10. Going further back, Michigan State is 19-3 SU in the past 22 meetings. And when playing Penn State at home, as they will tonight, the Spartans are 5-1 SU in the past six.
As if the Spartans need extra incentive, they could grab a share of the conference lead with a win tonight.
Accordingly, the Spartans are whopping 13-point favorites in NCAA Basketball Betting Odds at JustBet, while the over/under total is at 132.
The teams have met once previously this season, on Feb. 13, when the Spartans beat the Nittany Lions 65-54, cashing as 6.5-point road favorites. The score went under the total of 132.
On Sunday, the Nittany Lions picked up just their 11th victory of the season, beating the Northwestern Wildcats 79-60. Penn State covered as a 2-point favorite and the score went over the total of 130.
The Nittany Lions were sparked by Talor Battle’s 16 points and Chris Babb’s 14 points.
The Spartans, who could be prominent during March Madness, were forced to rally in the second half to beat the Purdue Boilermakers 53-44 on Sunday, as 4-point underdogs. The score went under the total of 133.
Raymar Morgan finished the game with a double-double, scoring 16 points and snaring 12 rebounds.
Penn State is 11-17 SU and 12-13-1 ATS, and is second-last in the Big Ten standings with a 3-13 SU record.
Michigan State is 22-7 SU and 11-17 ATS, and is in third place in the conference with a 12-4 SU record, a half game back of No. 6 Purdue and one game behind the conference-leading No. 7 Ohio State Buckeyes.
