NCAA Tournament: West Virginia should keep rolling
By Hank Harris • Mar 17th, 2010 • Category: NCAABThe West Virginia Mountaineers are one of College Basketball’s hottest teams heading into the NCAA Tournament, winning six straight games including a nail biter win last weekend over the Georgetown Hoyas to capture the school’s first-ever Big East conference championship.
The Mountaineers, the No. 2 seed in the East region, should be able to keep rolling when they face the No. 15 seed Morgan State Bears in their tournament opener on Friday in Buffalo (12:15 pm ET, CBS).
March Madness Betting at JustBet has the Mountaineers as big 17.5-point favorites against the Bears.
West Virginia was able to hang on against the Hoyas – another hot team heading into the Big Dance – and came away with a 60-58 win over Georgetown in the Big East title game on Saturday. West Virginia failed to cover the 2.5-point spread and the score went under the total of 132.5.
Da’Sean Butler led West Virginia with 20 points and five rebounds, while Kevin Jones added 12 in that win.
The Bears won the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference regular season and playoff titles. They secured the conference title with a 68-61 win over South Carolina State on Saturday, but did not cover as a 10-point favorite. The score went under the total of 141.5.
West Virginia was 27-6 straight up and 13-19 against the spread this season. Morgan State went 27-9 straight up and 6-5 against the number.
West Virginia is 5-0 SU in its last five games.
The total has gone under in four of of West Virginia’s last five games. West Virginia is 2-5 ATS in its last seven games.
