The Colorado Buffaloes will partake in the programs first CFB betting non-conference affair on a Friday night since 1975 when it invades the Glass Bowl to take on the Toledo Rockets in ESPN’s Friday night NCAAF broadcast. JustBet Sportsbook currently has the Buffaloes tagged as 3.5-point road favorites while the game ‘total’ has been set at 54.5.
This is a very dangerous spot for HC Hawkins and his Buffaloes A loss here, and who knows what might happen. Maybe the boosters will get into the ears of the schools AD and force him to take a page out of recent NFL teams that fired their offensive coordinators the last couple weeks. It wouldn’t shock me in the least, as the Hawkins era hasn’t quite taken off in Boulder like it did in Boise.
Still, if there was a team the Buffs could get their offense off against, it’s the Toledo Rockets’. New HC Tim Beckman’s club gave up a whopping 315 yards on the ground to the Purdue Boilermakers last week. That has to have Colorado’s O-Line and RB corps, mainly RB Darrell Scott salivating at the opportunity to run against it. However, Toledo got its offensive swerve on against Purdue last week as well, gaining a total of 493 yards. QB Aaron Opelt completed 41 of 67 overall passes, so CU’s defense that allowed CSU QB Grant Stucker to complete 59% of his passes for 208 yards and a TD better be on high alert.
Whichever way you cut it, points will be scored in this one. After hearing from naysayers about how poor the offense was a week ago, look for the Buffs to run roughshod all over the Rockets woeful defense. Also look for Toledo to get theirs. The over is 10-3 ATS in Colorado’s L/13 Friday games, and it’s 8-3 ATS the L/11 times Toledo was installed a home underdog. Look for this one to be of the high scoring variety with the outright winner not known until the final moments of the game.
Selection: Colorado/Toledo Over 54.5
