ACC rivals take to the field in one of Saturday afternoon’s premier NCAA football betting matches when the North Carolina Tar Heels face the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in a heated NCAAF gambling affair.
For the most part, it hasn’t been pretty this year for HC Butch Davis, but the Tar Heels keep finding ways to win games and move up in the polls. This week, UNC chimes in at #18 after beating East Carolina 31-17 in the third week of college football betting. Carolina dropped an impressive 433 yards on a formidable Pirates defense, led by QB TJ Yates’ efficient game. The signal caller went 19/24 for 227 yards with two touchdowns and more importantly, no interceptions. However, the accolades for the season should be going to the Heels’ ‘D’. They rank 6th in the country in yards per game allowed at 198.7, 7th against the rush at 52.3 yards per game, and 12th in points allowed at 11.0 per game.
That rush defense will be tested by Georgia Tech’s option attack on Saturday afternoon. If the Jackets play anything like they did against Miami though, the sledding will be tough. GT only mustered 95 rushing yards against the Canes in ESPN’s Thursday Night Football betting affair last week, but a lot of those problems stemmed from RB Jonathan Dwyer’s injured shoulder. The reigning ACC Offensive Player of the Year is listed as probable for this game against UNC. QB Josh Nesbitt shouldn’t have to do much in terms of throwing the football for the Ramblin’ Wreck to find success. HC Paul Johnson doesn’t mind that GT ranks 110th in the nation in passing offense at just 137.3 yards per game. Nesbitt leads the team in both passing yards (357) and rushing yards (213).
Recently, the rivalry between these ACC foes has been one-sided. The Tar Heels are a perfect 5-0 ATS since 2004, but the Jackets have won three of the L/4 meetings SU. Home may be where the heart is, but it’s certainly not where covers lie for G-Tech betting fans. The Yellow Jackets are just 3-7-1 ATS in their L/11 games at Bobby Dodd Stadium.
