The defending National Champion Florida Gators will partake in another scrimmage on Saturday afternoon when they host HC Larry Blakeney’s Troy Trojans at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium in a college football betting match-up. HC Urban Meyer’s Gators currently sit as enormous 36.5-point home favorites while the game ‘total’ has been set at 60.
Troy probably lost a game it shouldn’t have last week, but nonetheless, BG wanted it more and came away with the 31-14 home victory after falling into a quick 14-0 hole. The Trojans limited the Falcons to just 78 yards rushing, but still lost as it allowed BG QB Tyler Sheehan top throw for over 300 yards. They only held possession of the pigskin for 25+ minutes, and went 4 for 13 (31%) on 3rd down conversions. Not good!
There’s really not much to report on the Gators from last week. It was a romp from the onset. QB Tim Tebow threw for 188 yards and a score, but backup QB John Brantley got most of the work with the 2nd and 3rd teamers. Charleston Southern racked up 323 total yards and 18 1st downs, but again, most of it was accrued against backups.
Many will be quick to lay the chalk here with the Gators in their first lined game of the year. I won’t be of the many. Instead, I’ll take the heaping load of points and hope HC Blakeney has his Trojans ready to compete with the Gators bench players. Troy is the favorite to win the Sun Belt this season, and should be able to hang. Besides, HC Meyer knows his team could sleepwalk to a win in this spot and probably hasn’t done much game planning. He’s got a bigger fish to fry next week…
Selection: Troy Trojans (+36.5)
