The 2009 college football betting wraps up its second week of play on Saturday night, and as the marquee match-up of a full slate of games, the USC Trojans will lock horns at the ‘Shoe with the Ohio State Buckeyes. Without a shadow of a doubt, the USC Trojans are one of the more impressive teams in the land. Freshman QB Matt Barkley had a stellar first outing of the season against San Jose State last week, completing 15 of his 19 passes for 233 yards. Defensively speaking, the Trojans only allowed the Spartans to rack up eight first downs and held them to just 1/16 on third down conversions. The 121 yards they allowed for the game was the fifth best mark for FBS teams in Week 1 of the season. Only nine of those yards came on the ground thanks to six sacks. When the dust finally settled, the Trojans left the Coliseum with a dominant 56-3 victory.
The Ohio State Buckeyes were a completely different story in last week’s football betting affair. As 22-point favorites, the Bucks struggled with the Midshipmen of Navy all day, allowing 342 yards of offense. QB Terrelle Pryor started off his sophomore season with a respectable outing, going 14/21 for 174 yards through the air in Ohio State’s narrow 31-27 victory.
Was last week an indicator that the Buckeyes are weak? With that lousy performance and last season’s 35-3 defeat in LA, it’s no wonder that the oddsmakers are backing the Trojans. All eyes in Columbus have been fixated on Saturday September 12th for a long time. Last week was probably a fantastic job of sandbagging it. Look for the Buckeyes to win this sucker outright!
