College Football Betting Bash: Florida Gators vs. LSU Tigers

#1 Florida Gators
(4-0, 2-1 ATS)

#4 LSU Tigers
(5-0, 2-3 ATS)

As a part of your NCAA Football gambling weekend, the LSU Tigers will play host to the Florida Gators in a heated college football betting affair.

The Gators still aren’t so sure how much, if at all that QB Tim Tebow will be able to play. Tebow is the heart and soul of this offense, but the truth of the matter is that the defense is going to have to step up to win this game regardless. Save perhaps Oklahoma, no one has had a better defense in the country than Florida. The Gators rank 1st in total defense at 212.8 yards per game, 2nd against the pass (120.0 yards per game), 17th against the rush (92.8 yards per game), and 1st in points allowed (7.2 per game). Don’t forget that if Tebow can’t go, that backup QB John Brantley is still a highly touted prospect and the future of Florida’s program. So far this season, he is 22/30 for 232 yards with four touchdowns against no interceptions. The RB stable of Jeffrey Demps (304 yards, 4 TDs), Chris Rainey (261 yards), and Emmanuel Moody (188 yards) is amongst the best in the nation as well.

The task will be tough for HC Les Miles and his LSU Tigers, but they’ve stood toe-to-toe with some tough teams in tough situations already this season. None of those tests were more difficult than last week’s come-from-behind victory in Athens against the Bulldogs. It was huge step for QB Jordan Jefferson, who has come under criticism about not being able to play well in the biggest games. Still, it’s hard to feel that this team is really the 4th best team in the country. The Bayou Bengals rank 99th in total offense at 322.0 yards per game, and there’s no way that that’s going to cut it against the Gators with Tebow or not. Miles’ defense is normally dominant, but this year, LSU has already allowed 23 points to Washington and 26 points to Mississippi State.

All of the college football wagering trends point towards Florida in this one. The Gators are 11-1 ATS in their L/12 road games and 13-3 ATS in their L/16 SEC betting contests. Meanwhile, LSU is just 3-12-1 ATS in its L/16 games played in the Bayou and 3-9 ATS in its L/12 games overall. The road team is 6-2 ATS in the L/8 meetings between these squads, but the Gators have covered the L/4 spreads in the series.
