As a part of your NCAA Football gambling weekend, the North Carolina Tar Heels will play host to the Florida State Seminoles in a heated college football betting affair.
The grumblings out of Tallahassee are getting louder and louder with every passing week, and they won’t be quieting down anytime soon unless the Noles start posting some W’s. HC Bobby Bowden has already stated he won’t be stepping down after this season, but the pressure to do so will be at its all time highest if the Noles don’t improve upon their 14-1-1 all-time mark against the Tar heels this evening. FSU has gotten off to its worst start since Bowden took over the program’s reigns back in 1976. They dropped their third game in a row back on October 10th losing in a shoot-out to GTECH by a 49-44 final count. The offense did its part, but the defense stunk out loud; DC Mickey Andrews stop unit currently ranks 107th out of 109 teams allowing an eye-popping 426.7 YPG. That’s not going to get it done tonight; even against a Tar Heel offense that’s proven to be inept thus far.
Though UNC stands 4-2 SU on the year, it can’t be thrilled about its overall resume. Two of its victories came against FCS foes The Citadel and Georgia Southern, and its only FBS cover came back in Week 2 against East Carolina. HC Butch Davis’ squad has been outclassed in ACC play getting outscored by both Georgia Tech and Virginia by a combined 40-10 final score. Not good! The offense can’t get out of its own way let alone come up with any kind of passing game to keep opposing defenses honest. The Heels passing attack currently ranks 103rd in the country averaging an unacceptable 171.5 YPG. QB T.J. Yates has thrown for just 964 yards and has a negative TD/INT ratio of 6:7. The offenses mindset thus far has been to run the ball, not turn it over, and rely on the defense to set them up with short fields; mixed results overall. Defensively however, UNC is one of the best in the nation as it ranks 3rd in total defense allowing 237.7 YPG and 12th in scoring defense allowing 14.2 PPG; it’s also averaged 2.5-sacks per game.
Tonight will mark the first meeting between these pro9grams since 2004. The Seminoles are a $$$-making 8-3-2 ATS their L/13 as an underdog, and 2-0-2 ATS their L/4 as a pup on the road. UNC’s 2-2 SU and 3-1 ATS off a bye the L/3 seasons. The road team has covered the spread in this series in 7 of the L/9 meetings.
