Jets NFL playoff hopes hanging by a thread

By Jack Williams • Dec 2nd, 2009 • Category: NFL

Thursday’s NFL game isn’t exactly generating a huge amount of hype across the nation, but it’s a huge game for the New York Jets.

The Jets’ fading playoff hopes will be greatly boosted by a win against AFC East rival Buffalo Bills when they meet in a neutral-site matchup at the Rogers Centre in Toronto (8:20 pm ET, NFL Network).

The Jets are 3-point favorites and the over/under total is 37 in NFL Odds.

New York has history going against them in this tilt. The Jets are 4-6 SU and a woeful 3-7 against the spread over the past 10 meetings with the Bills.

Earlier this season, the Jets even managed to lose at home to the lowly Bills, suffering a 16-13 setback as 9.5-point favorites on Oct. 18.

Anyone who witnessed that debacle is probably still trying to forget it.

The Jets did pick up a win against the Carolina Panthers last week, winning 17-6 as a 4-point favorite. The score went under the total of 41.5. Thomas Jones rushed for 75 yards and a touchdown on 25 carries for the Jets and Mark Sanchez passed for 154 yard with an interception

The Bills defeated another AFC East rival, the Miami Dolphins, by a 31-14 count as a 3-point underdog on Sunday. The score went over the total of 38.5. Fred Jackson rushed for 73 yards and a pair of touchdowns on 15 carries for Buffalo, while Ryan Fitzpatrick passed for 246 yards with a touchdown, an interception and a TD run in the win.

New York is 5-6 SU and ATS. Buffalo is 4-7 SU and 6-5 ATS.
