NFL Preseason Preview: New Orleans Saints @ New England Patriots

By Hank Harris • Aug 10th, 2010 • Category: NFL

The New England Patriots host the New Orleans Saints in the NFL Preseason opener for both teams Thursday.

New England is a 1.5-point favorite and the over/under total is 36 in NFL Football Lines at JustBet.

The Saints won the first Super Bowl in franchise history last season, beating the favored Indianapolis Colts 31-17 in Super Bowl XLIV.  En route to the big game, New Orleans  beat the Arizona Cardinals in the divisional round and got past the Minnesota Vikings in overtime in the NFC Conference championship.

The Saints went 13-3 SU and 8-8 ATS last season and finished first in the NFC South division. The Patriots were 10-6 SU and 8-7-1 ATS and were first in the AFC East division.

But New England didn’t have much success in the NFL Playoffs, losing 33-14 to the Baltimore Ravens in the Wild Card round.

The Patriots have a slight edge head-to-head against the Saints, going 3-2 SU in the past five meetings, but are just 1-4 ATS. The teams squared off last season, with the Saints beating the Patriots 38-17 on Nov. 30. New Orleans covered as a 2-point home favorite and the score went under the over/under total of 57.

New Orleans won its first 13 games of the regular season last year before losing to the Dallas Cowboys and then losing its last two games, including a 23-10 loss against the Carolina Panthers in its season finale Jan. 3.

New England ended the regular season with a 34-27 loss against the Houston Texans as a 7.5-point road favorite.
