Chicago Bears push for another playoff run

By Chico Rodriguez • Jan 9th, 2011 • Category: NFL

The Chicago Bears are one of the oldest franchises in the history of the NFL, having been established in 1919. This season will be the 26th playoff appearance for the Bears.

The Bears are at +800 odds to win Super Bowl XLV in NFL Futures at JustBet.

The Bears are not just one of the oldest franchises in the NFL, but they are also one of the most storied franchises in the league. The Bears have won a total of 9 League Championships in their history. While this sounds impressive, the Bears had most of their success prior to the Super Bowl Era. Eight of the nine championships for the Bears came as “NFL Championships” rather than Super Bowl Championships.

The Bears won seven of their nine championships prior to the year 1950 and have actually undergone quite a drought in terms of success.

The only Super Bowl Championship for the Bears came in 1985. That Bears team has gone down in history as one of the best teams that the league has ever seen. The Bears were led by Hall of Fame running back Walter Payton, “Refrigerator” Perry and head coach Mike Ditka. The Bears dominated their opponents with a “46 Defense” which took advantage of their physical defense and stifled opponents.

The Bears have managed to reach the Super Bowl one time since their magical season in 1985. The Bears topped their competition in 2006 and advanced to the Super Bowl to play against the Indianapolis Colts. Ultimately the Colts were too good offensively and beat out the Bears 29-17 in Super Bowl XLI.
