NHL Playoffs: Sharks try to get to Blackhawks

By Chico Rodriguez • May 21st, 2010 • Category: NHL

The San Jose Sharks will take on the Chicago Blackhawks in Game 3 of the NHL Western Conference Finals on Friday (8 pm ET, Versus).

The Blackhawks are a -150 moneyline favorite and the over/under is 5.5 in NHL Odds at JustBet.

The Blackhawks are without doubt in the driver’s seat in this series thus far. Chicago came out strong with a solid defensive effort in game one on Sunday. Niemi, the goaltender for the Blackhawks, was incredible. He managed 44 saves during the game while surrendering just one goal in the course of the game. Nabokov was also solid in the goal for the San Jose Sharks but it wasn’t enough for the Sharks. The Sharks ended up losing a tough game one with a final score of 2-1. The Blackhawks jumped ahead to a 1-0 lead in the series.

Game two had a familiar feeling to it for the Chicago Blackhawks. Neimi was once again solid in the goal for the Blackhawks. Chicago also managed to find holes through the defense of the Sharks as well in game 2. After both teams combined for just 3 goals in game one, the Blackhawks were able to score 4 goals on the Sharks in game two.  The final score of the game 2 match between the Blackhawks and Sharks was 4-2.

This puts the Sharks in a must win situation. It is very difficult for a team to come back from 2-0, where they are currently at. It will be nearly impossible if the Sharks allow the Blackhawks to jump out to a 3-0 lead in the series. Look for the Sharks to come out with a physical game. They will need to show that they can provide a consistent offensive attack if they hope to win games in this series.

This game figures to have a lot of drama in it. If the Sharks lose, it looks as though the Blackhawks will be on their way to play in the Stanley Cup Finals
